James Schultz has a long history with legendary spots celebrated over here at Guitar Shop Tees, and now we’re adding his very own Quimper Sound Records and Guitar in Port Townsend, WA to our esteemed collection!
Born and raised in the Northwest, James always considered himself to be a horn player, until he walked into McKenzie River Music. From that point on, James was a guitarist, started a punk band, and moved to Seattle. After working in sales at several guitar shops (both big and small), he received the greatest advice: "You don't want to be a rep, you want to own a store. Open the kind of store you want to shop at.” In 2011, James opened The Guitar Store in Seattle.
After moving back to Port Townsend, WA in 2017, James’ friend Mark Herring, owner of Quimper Sound (a record shop James frequented in his teens), told him of his plans to retire. A few days later, James owned the record store, and over the years has expanded to a larger space and renamed it Quimper Sound Records and Guitars (of which the The Guitar Store is now part of).
The shop has been a vital part of the community since 1974 and now offers hundreds of new and used guitars. They’re a huge PRS dealer with over 150 in stock and also have a vast selection of Gibson. Their in-house luthier is Steve Leggitt, and Quimper will be launching a custom parts brand this summer.
