Jeff Keithline, a professional musician with 40+ years experience and an avid participant in all aspects of music making, had a dream of opening a guitar shop. With management help from Mike Samos, a studio engineer & session musician, Empire Guitars in Providence, Rhode Island, opened its doors for business in 2006.

14 years later and an expansion to 1400-square feet, Empire Guitars has grown into one of the best vintage and used instruments shops in the New England area.

The shop specializes in vintage instruments and quality used instruments, including Gibson, Fender, PRS, Rickenbacker, Gretsch, Guild, and Martin. Collectors themselves, Jeff and Mike are always on the lookout for Gibson Tal Farlow and Gibson with Pelham Blue finish!

They’ve created a space that’s more than collecting and selling instruments – it’s a place where guitar experts and musicians come to discuss the tools of their trade and where visitors gain a sense of discovery and recognize something new in the shop each time they stop by. It’s a must-see destination for artists including Stephen Stills (he bought a 1958 Strat), Mike Dirnt (Green Day), Jack Black, and Robbie Krieger (The Doors). Comedian Marc Maron recently made his first vintage electric guitar purchase at Empire Guitars – a 1960 Les Paul Junior Double Cutaway.

Most of all, thanks to Empire’s knowledgeable & friendly staff – the shop has built a community of music lovers and customers who have become friends
