FEATURED SHOP OF THE MONTH
Guitar Emporium has been a fixture of the Louisville, Kentucky music scene for over 40 years, proudly carrying the region's largest selection of vintage guitars.
In 2013, after 38 years running Guitar Emporium, founders Jimmy Brown and his wife Mary Jane Aboud decided it was time to retire. But Sherman Buschemeyer, a longtime customer and bassist, knew that his hometown could not lose this iconic guitar shop, so he bought the business (and the building!). With an updated look and the shop’s original, veteran five-person staff in tow, Guitar Emporium remains the go-to spot for buying and selling of string instruments, including Martin, Gibson, Bedell, Kelton Swade, Bozung, Cordoba, Guild, Taylor, Fender, Gretsch, PRS, Rickenbacker, Suhr, and many more!
Customers are encouraged to test drive the equipment (although you should take heed to the sign in the shop that reads: NO STAIRWAY / NO TEEN SPIRIT / NO SINGING), and be sure ask lots of questions – Guitar Emporium’s crew are all real-world musicians who have probably played, used, or repaired the gear, and are eager to talk with you about it.
The shop also offers restringing, repairs, appraisals, and expert advice, as well as lessons from local legends and hosts weekly jam sessions for players of all ages and stages.
And, when you visit, make sure to pet Gus, Guitar Emporium’s head of security and top dog, literally.
