FEATURED SHOP OF THE MONTH
11151 Veirs Mill Rd
Wheaton, MD 20902
Since August 1958, Chuck Levin’s Washington Music Center has been one of the most well-respected musical instrument destinations in the U.S.
When Chuck and his wife Marge opened their shop in downtown Washington, D.C., it quickly became known for its great prices, huge inventory, and honest, reliable and personable customer service.
A decade later, in April 1968, as riots tore through the city following the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the store was razed to the ground. The Levins made it out safely, but the store and all its contents were lost.
Four months later, Chuck’s reopened in Wheaton, Maryland, where it grew to be one of the largest independent single-location musical instrument stores in the United States, so there’s ample space to check out and test out the vast inventory of guitars, including Fender, Martin, Taylor, Gretsch, PRS, Squire, Gibson, Yamaha, Eastman, Ibanez, EVH, Suhr, Cordoba, among many others!
Since the passing of Chuck in 2002, Marge in 2012, (and son Robert in 2013), their children Alan and Abbe now run the company, with Robert’s son Adam also joining the family business. Chuck’s celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2018 and continues to thrive and expertly serve high quality customer service and repairs (with dedicated staffers who have worked at the shop for an average of 10 years!).
Here’s to another 60 years!
