FEATURED SHOP OF THE MONTH
1450 25th Street South
Fargo, ND, 58103
Flatland Guitar & Lutherie in Fargo, ND is owned by native North Dakotans and longtime guitar aficionados Paul Hvidsten and Brett Marcuson. Since graduating from the Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery in the mid-90s, Paul has worked as a luthier, most notably at the Santa Cruz Guitar Company and later at Marguerite’s Music in Moorhead, MI, where he met his now-business partner Brett. With over 30 years of experience in guitar sales and repair between the two, Paul’s dream of opening up his own shop finally came true in April 2014
Paul likes to call Flatland "a guitar shop built around a repair bench." In Flatland’s five years of business, and no one else in town providing the level of detail, expert repairs and customer service they do – they’ve already tripled the size of their shop, which carries Taylor, Gretsch, Jackson, Recording King, PRS, Vintage, and Yamaha, and have added amps, pedals, and accessories to the shelves. They provide guitar and bass lessons too!
Each instrument at Flatland is carefully inspected for its physical and structural condition before it makes it to the sales floor, so that when a customer tests any guitar out, it is ready to play. And as the air in Fargo is often very dry, the repair shop sees anywhere from 15-20 instruments each week in need of repair.
