FEATURED SHOP OF THE MONTH
2621 Alma Street

Rufus Stewart opened Rufus Guitar Shop in Halifax, Canada in 1965. He moved it to Montreal in 1972 and sold it to Chuck and Jennie Baker, who moved the shop to Vancouver, British Columbia in 1984, where the shop remains to this day. Blaine McNamee began working with Chuck and Jennie in 2006 and ultimately bought the shop from them in 2014. Blaine has since expanded the business, opening Rufus Drum Shop in 2015 and Rufus Guitar and Drum Shop in 2019.
When Blaine (who’s been selling guitars since the age of 14 and touring in punk and metal bands since his 20s) took over, he also took Rufus to the next level, increasing their vintage stock to include Gibson, Martin, Yamaha, Epiphone, Gretsch, Fender and Fender Custom Shop, Collings, Taylor, PRS, and many others.
Rufus is a hot spot for legends. Vancouver's own Fender-endorsed Ayla Tesler Mabe has been hanging out at the shop since she was a little girl and is one of their favorite regular customers.
Bill Kelliher, Joe Bonamassa, and Juan Alderete stop in whenever they’re in town. Tom Waits took home an old Harmony arch top, Scott Shriner bought a ‘58 Fender P Bass, and Richie Sambora and Orianthi scored a few classical guitars. Even Jason Momoa purchased a National Ukulele!
The shop prides itself on being run by musicians for musicians. Every member of the team is part of Vancouver’s music scene, and they handpick everything they sell and focus on products that they would personally own and use. They’re all thrilled to share their love of music with their customers while also providing expert sales, lessons, and repairs!
